Editorial Policy and Standards

How we research, write, fact-check and update our content, and how we keep advertising separate from our research.

Our goal

StockEngine exists to help everyday investors understand the stock market and research companies for free. Our guides aim to be accurate, plain-English and genuinely useful, and to explain trade-offs rather than tell you what to buy.

How we write our guides

Each guide starts from primary and authoritative sources wherever possible: company filings with the SEC, official guidance from the IRS, SEC, FINRA and the Federal Reserve, index providers' published methodologies and established academic and industry research. We explain formulas with worked examples, show the limits of every metric and avoid hype. We don't accept payment to cover a company, product or broker.

Fact-checking and review

Before publishing, guides are checked for factual accuracy, correct math in every example, clear risk disclosures and working links. When a guide has been fact-checked, the date appears at the top of the article as “Fact-checked”. Rules that change often, such as tax brackets and contribution limits, are pointed to official sources rather than quoted as fixed numbers.

Keeping content up to date

We review our guides regularly and update them when rules, data or best practices change. Market data on stock pages and in our tools updates automatically from our licensed data provider; see how the StockEngine Score works for details on data sources and timing.

Use of AI

Some features, including AI Insights summaries, use artificial intelligence to turn financial data into plain-English text. These summaries are generated only from the figures shown, are labeled as AI-generated, and are instructed not to make forecasts or recommendations. Editorial guides may be drafted with the help of AI tools and are reviewed for accuracy before publication.

Advertising and affiliate independence

StockEngine is free because it's supported by display advertising and affiliate partnerships. Advertisers and partners have no influence over our guides, our tools or the StockEngine Score, and partners never pay for higher ratings or favorable coverage. Affiliate links are labeled and marked as sponsored. Read our affiliate disclosure.

Corrections

If you spot an error, please tell us through our contact page. We review every report, correct confirmed errors promptly and update the article's review date.

Not investment advice

Everything on StockEngine is for information and education only. We are not a broker-dealer or registered investment adviser, and nothing here is a recommendation to buy or sell any security. Consider your own situation and, where appropriate, consult a licensed professional. See our disclaimer.
